In a city populated by some of the greatest jazz bassists in the world, Craig Thomas has long been at the top of that list. As an instrumentalist, he’s backed dozens of jazz and pop luminaries including Buddy Rich, Philly Joe Jones, Mel Lewis, Pat Martino and Jimmy Bruno on the jazz side; and in the world of pop music, Vic Damone, Frank Sinatra, James Darren, and Bobby Rydell. In the recording world, his latest effort—“Culture,” recorded in 2013 with John Vanore & Abstract Truth—received great reviews from Jazz Times as did “Playtime,” recorded and produced with his vocalist wife, Eve. He has also recorded four CDs on the Concord Jazz label with Jimmy Bruno, including two live CDs, “Live at Birdland” with Bobby Watson and “Live at Birdland II” with Scott Hamilton. As an educator, Thomas joined the University of Delaware’s Department of Music as a bass instructor in January 2006, and serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at University of the Arts. Craig Thomas holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers, and received his Master of Music degree from Rowan University in May, 2002....
