Jazz Bridge presents their “Second Thursdays Neighborhood Concerts Series-Jazz at Foster’s Military Lounge,” 351 Charleston Rd, Willingboro, NJ 08046. This season begins with the Big Horn Jazz Band on Thursday, October 8. Showtime is 7:30-9:00 p.m. and tickets are $10 general admission/$5 for students, and are only available at the door. The 15-piece Big Horn Jazz Band, founded and led by Dennis Sigovich, is dedicated to performing the music of the late and legendary trumpeter and bandleader Maynard Ferguson, with their repertoire covering five decades of MF’s work. Through the efforts of band saxophonist, Ed Etkins, many of these great numbers have been transcribed, and when the Ferguson collection of music wound up at the University of North Texas, Etkinst traveled there to uncover unknown Ferguson gems and to work with the collection on its restoration. The group is staffed with a list of stellar players, including saxophonist Larry McKenna, trombonist Dale Devoe, and Maynard Ferguson alumnus Joe Mosello on trumpet. “The powerful, 15-man Big Horn Jazz Band meticulously plays its way through 50 years of challenging Maynard Ferguson orchestrations,” said philly.com...
