The prominent drummer Alvester Garnett will be the featured artist this Sunday at Moore’s. During the Q&A, he will elaborate on his career, touring jazz festivals in the USA and Europe, working with both Betty Carter and Abbey Lincoln simultaneously in the respective bands of the two legendary jazz ladies, his mentorship by Ellis Marsalis, the influence Max Roach and Victor Lewis, his teachers, had on him, his formative years as part of the Malden Diplomats Drum and Bugle Corp in Boston, childhood memories of learning to tap-dance, to play the piano and how he figured out how to play the drums all by himself as a little boy.
