The Institute of Jazz Studies, a research branch of the John Cotton Dana Library of Rutgers University Libraries, is the world's largest jazz archive. Housed on the Rutgers-Newark Campus, the Institute's activities transcend its vast holdings of recordings, books and periodicals, research files and historic photographs, and its extensive archival collections and artifacts. Its mission, simply, is to both preserve and promote jazz as a living art form.
